BEEHIVE WAFFLES

These cakes come in many shapes such as round, square or heart according to the baker’s molds. But they all have in common small square or parallelogram holes which resemble a beehive (holes in the beehive are even hexagon shapes with pointy a bottom). Molds are made from bronze, copper, cast iron, and aluminum. Cakes can be baked using coal, gas or electronic stoves. Still, we cannot forget the image of old ladies or grannies at some corner of a street or market frying these cakes using coal stoves and copper molds. Mix flour, egg, coconut milk and sugar together, apply oil to the bottom of the mold and heat both sides. Next, stir the flour and pour into the mold with adequate amount to avoid overflowing when the lid is covered. Once cooked, the cakes turn brownish, soft and dry. A cake like this in hands will always reminisce a nostalgic feeling.
